Youth Exchange ‘Health is the First Step to Empowerment’ was implemented in Vlasina Rid, Serbia from 15 to 24 August 2018 by 6 partners from Programme Countries (Youth Workers Alliance Vranje, Academy of Success, Just Do It, Next Generation, Yellow Shirts and Youth Season Assotiation) with main aim to bring together young people from rural areas and using outdoor and sport activities to shape their lives in active and positive direction. During the 8 days, 42 young people explored what does it mean healthy lifestyle in practice, they learned how to exercise in right way, how to spend their free time in quality active way and also how to inspire their peers to become more active and live more healthier life. They part in outdoor and sport based activities, discussions and simulations, team challenges, but also they worked on campaign using social media, video editing and pictures editing using online and offline media tools. They had an opportunity to increase their media tools competencies and encouraged other young people to live active and healthy life.
On this youth exchange following objectives were reached :
-To develop participant’s knowledge on healthy lifestyles and its essential elements (eating, exercising, and living);
-To provide the participants an opportunity to explore healthy practices from other countries and to learn how to live healthier life;
-To encourage the participants to influence healthy lifestyle in their communities and to activate their peers to live healthier live;
-To strength participants team work and intercultural competencies by providing them an opportunity to work and live 8 days in mix-intercultural environment during and gain new experiences and knowledge in intercultural field;
-To develop participant’s leadership skills by providing them an opportunity to prepare with support of their sending organizations and group leaders sessions through which other participants can explore healthy practices in their countries;
-To increase participant’s communication skills by giving them an opportunity to work on creating campaign raising awareness on health among their peers;
-To strength participants understanding of Erasmus + Programme and its possibilities through non-formal based activities and to encourage young people to get activated and to take part in international mobility activities.

Project objectives were reached using non-formal education methods and techniques. Participants were very active and worked in teams, in pairs and individualy. They took part in outdoor and sport activities, interactive lectures, simulations, debates and discussions. They took photos, made videos, interacted with the locals, as well they promoted the goals of this youth exchange in their communities and in media. This youth exchange ‘Health is the First Step to Empowerment’ had significant impact on directly involved participants but also on participating organizations and the communities. The key impact we see in raising awareness on the importance of healthy and active lifestyle and activating rural youth.
As a main results, 42 empowered Participants created Booklet for living Healthy Lifestyle, they created YouTube channel with short videos about the myths of healthy living, Facebook Page with more than 565 followers and implemented 6 dissemination events in their local communities.

On this youth exchange 6 organizations took part, coming from Serbia, North Macedonia, Italy, Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania. Organizations will be represented by 6 young people (2 will with fewer opportunities) and 1 group leader. All results, testimonials as well as articles and materials can be found on project blog:
