The last days of October (22 – 30.10.2021) were a unique – learning experience for 24 youth workers/ educators coming from 8 partner countries: Turkey, France, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Sweden, Denmark and Poland.
The participants gathered together in Istanbul in order to dive deeper into the topic of Crisis Situations and Risk Assessment through different non-formal education methods such as debates, intercultural team-work, discussions, theater based activities etc.
Each day started with fun energizers, after which the participants took part in sessions with a good concentration, creating a supportive and safe environment for young people coming from different backgrounds, with different learning needs. Participants had an opportunity to present the existing policies and guidelines, to analyze youth projects from the point of risks and safety, to take part in interactive presentations delivered by experts in First Aid and addressing abusive situations etc.
While the nights were reserved for self-organized nights in order to support non-formal interaction between each other e.g. ICL nights with an aim to learn more about each other’s cultures.
The sessions were facilitated by experienced trainers and designed in order to encourage participants to share their knowledge, ideas and experience regarding safety in youth projects and deepen their skills in management with crisis situations and risk assessment. Apart from it, participants had an opportunity to deepen knowledge in the Erasmus + Programme and develop ideas for future projects.
After one week, participants closed the training course and left the project venue with many memories, raised competencies to effectively address different risky situations and many new friends/ future partners. Main outcomes of the project were the ‘checklists’ on safety and risk management, and the role of youth organizations in their communities during emergency situations created by the participants of the training course.
